چکیده
In this paper, results of GPR experiments carried out in Nalaih, Mongolia and Yakutsk, Russia will be shown. In the measurements, target is ground water and permafrost. Especially in these regions, there are special kind of permafrost structure, which are important in the study of permafrost. In Nalaih, there is “pingo”, which is composed of several layers including permafrost in the subsurface. We applied Common Midpoint method to estimate vertical profiles. In analysis of the CMP data, we applied f-k filtering and NMO correction, which are common techniques in seismic signal processing. In our GPR data, there are reflected waves from the permafrost surface and we accurately estimated the structure of the permafrost of the pingo. In Yakutsk, Russia, there are also special structures at a few meter depth in Taiga region. We will show experiment results of GPR at the field, and we will interpret the data to detect the structure with GPR. Also we tried to compare GPR data and SAR data in Nalaih, Mongolia, and we considered interpretation of SAR.

Proposing New Methods to Enhance the Low-Resolution Simulated GPR Responses in the Frequency and Wavelet Domains
To date, a number of numerical methods, including the popular Finite-Difference Time Domain (FDTD) technique, have been proposed to simulate Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) responses. Despite having a number of advantages, the finite-difference method also has pitfalls such as being very time consuming in simulating the most common case of media with high dielectric permittivity, causing the for...

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is an effective and practical geophysical imaging tool, with a wide set of applications in geological mapping of subsurface information. This research study aims at determination of the geophysical parameter differences in the subsurface geological structures and construction of a 3D fracture model. GPR and resistivity methods were applied to detect the unstable t...
متن کاملRelic permafrost structures in the Gobi of Mongolia: age and significance
Relict permafrost structures (ice-wedge casts and cryoturbation structures) are present in the Gobi of southern Mongolia. Luminescence dates of sediments are presented to constrain the age of formation of permafrost structures. These data show that there was a phase of permafrost development during the latter part of the Last Glacial (after about 22 to 15 ka) that resulted in cryoturbated sedim...
متن کاملFrozen ponds: production and storage of methane during the Arctic winter in a lowland tundra landscape in northern Siberia, Lena River delta
Lakes and ponds play a key role in the carbon cycle of permafrost ecosystems, where they are considered to be hotspots of carbon dioxide CO2 and methane CH4 emission. The strength of these emissions is, however, controlled by a variety of physical and biogeochemical processes whose responses to a warming climate are complex and only poorly understood. Small waterbodies have been attracting an i...
